O’Connor Method Workshop
March 22-23, 2013
Town and Country Resort, San Diego
Classics 4 Kids brings Mark O’Connor to San Diego for his renowned training workshop, O’Connor Method where participants will learn how American music can be the material for a violin, viola or cello student learning how to play.
The O’Connor Method has been widely praised since its debut in fall 2009 as “an American grown rival to the Suzuki method” (The New Yorker). It takes an American Classical approach to modern violin playing, offering a technical foundation using songs from the diverse range of traditional American string playing. The groundbreaking method is the first violin method to feature all American music and has been hailed by teachers from across the country as filling a significant gap in classical music education.
Pedagogical expertise and personal experience of master teacher/exclusive teacher trainer, Pamela Wiley will be instructing the workshop. Wiley is well versed in the method and is instrumental in the adaptation of O’Connor’s repertoire for a teaching method. Eight principles of the method will be emphasized: listening, practice, progression, exercising, performance, relevance, creativity, expression.
