C4K was founded in 1994 by nonprofit innovator, Marion Scire, as the result of a single spontaneous mother-daughter effort to fill a gap in music education. After raising funds for 600 students to attend a professional piano recital in Poway, California, the idea caught on, and soon, more grades, schools, and districts began asking for access to quality classical music concerts and Classics 4 Kids was born.
Over twenty years and an estimated 330,000 students later, Classics 4 Kids is still going strong, now serving nearly 20,000 K-5 elementary students, teachers and families each season through a comprehensive in-class and offsite music educational model designed to ignite academic advancement and spark personal growth.
Filling An Educational Gap:
C4K is stepping up to fill the current music education gap for elementary students, teachers and families throughout San Diego County. Numerous studies show a strong correlation between exposure to music education and increased scores in math, science and reading, decreased stress levels, increased confidence and social skills, and enhanced overall academic engagement and advancement.
Exposure to music and performing arts is a critical component for the most well-rounded and positive student academic experience. C4K’s custom programs are designed to spark creativity and engagement at a critical time in an elementary student’s learning continuum that will stay with them through the years, as we nurture our next generation of community leaders and innovators.
